Aims:

To examine the literature on computer games and serious games to explore the opportunities in the gaming industry for the Wellcome Trust to engage the public with scientific issues and ideas. The main focus of this project is to examine the potential positive impacts of gaming, particularly with respect to learning value and skill enhancement.

The main questions that this study aims to address are as follows:

  • What are the impacts and outcomes of gaming?

  • What measures have been used to evaluate the impact and outcomes of gaming?

  • Does gaming have value in learning and skill enhancement?

  • Are there differences in the kinds of engagement/knowledge/skills which can best be supported by games at different ages (secondary, tertiary, adult)?
